Call for Proposals: This Way to Sustainability Conference 2020
The planning committee of the This Way to Sustainability conference invite presentation proposals for this year's conference, happening March 26-27, at California State University, Chico. The theme is Resiliency in a Changing World. This Way to Sustainability is a student-run conference focused on challenges, ideas, solutions and resiliency for a more sustainable future. Presentation proposals are due by Nov. 30.
Call for Papers: 'Interdisciplinary Sustainability Curricula in Higher Education'
A special issue of Sustainability aims to explore and develop the common priorities of the design and nature of undergraduate and graduate programs in sustainability-related areas. Particularly encouraged are articles that introduce and assess innovation in novel pedagogies, and curricular and course design; articles that consider transdisciplinary synthesis of ideas and practice within the context of sustainability competencies; and articles that address challenges in implementation such as institutional/structural and economic barriers.
APA-SCD Excellence in Sustainability Awards
The Awards for Excellence in Sustainability is an annual program by the American Planning Association Sustainable Communities Division (APA-SCD) that honors projects, plans, policies, individuals and organizations dedicated to supporting sustainable communities. The deadline to nominate is Jan. 18.
SIILK Network Mentorship Program
The Sustainable and Impact Investing Learning and Knowledge (SIILK) mentorship program pairs students with diverse backgrounds and experiences with experts from the sustainable investing industry to provide real-world experience in sustainable investing and build their professional networks. The goal of the mentorship program is to create a more diverse pipeline of finance professionals with a solid grasp on sustainable investing.
2020 Best of Green Schools Awards
The Center for Green Schools at USGBC, in partnership with Green Schools National Network, invites nominations for the Best of Green Schools 2020 awards. The Best of Green Schools celebrates significant strides toward creating more sustainable schools. Winners will be announced and awarded in 10 categories, including one for higher education institutions or faculty members who have made a significant contribution to the K–12 green schools movement, at the 2020 Green Schools Conference and Expo, to be held March 2–4, 2020, in Portland, Oregon. All submissions are due on Nov. 18.
2020-2021 Newman Civic Fellows Nominations
Campus Compact is seeking community-committed students from member institutions for the next cohort of Nemwan Civic Fellows. The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes and supports community-committed students who are changemakers and public problem-solvers at Campus Compact member institutions. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides students with training and resources that nurture their assets and passions and help them develop strategies for social change. Nominations will be accepted through Feb. 3.
Global Survey on Sustainability Publishing & Research in Higher Education
The European School of Sustainability Science and Research and the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Program have released this survey that aims to understand the breadth and sources of research and publications on sustainability in higher education. The deadline to participate is Nov. 15.
Campus 2030 Challenge
University professors, researchers and students are encouraged to submit proposals that articulate the college campus of 2030, having achieved the 17 SDGs. Project ideas should take into account the social, environmental and economic dimensions of the 2030 agenda and should include at least three of the 17 Goals. The deadline to submit a five-slide presentation that explains the idea is Feb. 16.
Sustainability Survey From University of Southern Mississippi Researcher
The questionnaire is designed to obtain a more in-depth look into the political setting and identification of sustainability within universities. This survey gathers data from sustainability leaders from public and private four-year U.S. universities that have an identifiable entity that includes the word sustainability, or a similar variant of the term, in their name.
Energy to Lead Competition 2020
Any higher education institution in New York State that is a REV Campus Challenge member is eligible to participate in the Energy to Lead Competition 2020. The competition will award up to $5 million, ranging from $500,000 and $1.5 million per award. Winning proposals will highlight cost-effective, deep and impactful energy savings projects leading to decarbonization. Proposals should also integrate student engagement and share best practices with other campuses. The deadline to submit a proposal is Feb. 20.
AASHE Webinars: Call for Proposals
Proposals for AASHE webinars in 2020 are being accepted through Nov. 8. Proposals can be suitable for any level and on any topic relevant to AASHE’s diverse membership. AASHE staff will provide guidance on how to prepare presentation slides, training on the webinar platform, and will share best practices for presenting a webinar.
Call for Applications: AASHE Governance
AASHE seeks interested candidates to serve on its Board of Directors, Advisory Council and STARS Steering Committee that will help inspire and catalyze higher education to lead the global sustainability transformation. These groups bring together leaders from diverse backgrounds to identify the opportunities and help solve the challenges facing sustainability in higher education. Wege Prize 2020 Call for Team Applications
Wege Prize is an annual competition that aims to ignite game-changing solutions for the future by inspiring college/university students around the world to collaborate across institutional, disciplinary and cultural boundaries to redesign the way economies work. Participants contend for over $30,000 (USD) in total cash prizes. The Wege Prize is organized by Kendall College of Art and Design’s Wege Center for Sustainable Design with support from the Wege Foundation. The deadline to submit an application is Nov. 10.
ACUI Excellence in Innovations in Sustainability Award
The Excellence in Innovations in Sustainability award recognizes campuses that solve environmental challenges through innovative and sustainable practices or creative partnerships. The award is designed to encourage and reward a campus on the leading edge of facilities trends through its production and application of sustainability outcomes. The application deadline is Dec. 6.
2019 Campus RainWorks Challenge
The Campus RainWorks Challenge seeks to engage undergraduate and graduate students to foster a dialogue about responsible stormwater management and showcase the environmental, economic and social benefits of green infrastructure practices. Student teams will design an innovative green infrastructure project for their campus that effectively manages stormwater pollution while benefiting the campus community and the environment. Registration is open until Oct. 15, and participating teams must submit completed entries by Dec. 17.
RCE Awards 2019
The Global RCE Service Center at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability invites nominations for the 8th annual RCE (Regional Center of Excellence) Awards. RCEs are encouraged to nominate one or more of their education for sustainable development (ESD) projects for the award. ESD projects should illustrate how RCEs address local sustainable development challenges, and therefore provide an example of how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be implemented at the local level through quality education. Nominations are due by Oct. 31.
Eric Zencey Prize in Ecological Economics
The Gund Institute for Environment at the University of Vermont invites submissions for the inaugural Eric Zencey Prize in Ecological Economics, which celebrates outstanding writing on the environmental limits of our planet. Named after scholar Eric Zencey (1954-2019), the prize will recognize the best current affairs book or long-form journalism that addresses real-world environmental challenges using the principles of ecological economics, a field that explores the relationships between economics and Earth’s limited natural resources. The submission deadline is Jan. 6.
Call for Submissions: Special Climate Change Issue: 'Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics'
The Department of Health Sciences at California State University, East Bay invites submissions for a special issue of the "Journal of Law, Medicine, and Ethics" on the legal and ethical issues facing healthcare and public health systems as they wrestle with the challenges of climate change. The issue will be published in December 2020. Abstracts are due Nov. 30.
Clinton Global Initiative University Call for Applications
The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) is looking for higher education student leaders who are committed to taking action in their community to address a pressing challenge. Students accepted into CGI U will participate in a year-round program that includes access to: high-touch mentorship; a social impact curriculum; funding streams; and student engagement events, including an invitation to the annual meeting from April 17-19 at the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland. Applications to join the class of 2020 must be received on or by Nov. 4.

The Foundation for International Education invites conference proposals for its annual Student Global Leadership Conference, happening April 3-5, 2020 in London. The theme will be Leadership for Change in an Uncertain World. The deadline to submit a proposal is Dec. 6.
Recyclemania 2020 Registration
Colleges and universities can sign up to participate in the 2020 competition, which is a platform for colleges and universities to have a friendly waste reduction competition over an eight-week period in the spring. Institutions will report recycling and trash amounts each week and are ranked in various categories.

The Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments is seeking applications for its new nursing student committee. The Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments is a national nursing organization focused on promoting healthy people and healthy environments by educating and leading the nursing profession, advancing research, incorporating evidence-based practice, and influencing policy. As members of the committee, student nurses will be taught leadership skills and will connect and collaborate with fellow students and nursing leaders from across the country. Racialized Students Caucus, Digital Storytelling Workshop
The three-day workshop, offered by Meal Exchange, taking place on Nov. 22-24 at the University of Guelph, aims to bring together racialized students with lived experience of food insecurity to build skills in video making and gain knowledge of artistic methods for community dialogue, policy action, and challenging dominant narratives. All costs of the workshop (registration, travel, accommodations and food) will be covered. Students from all campuses across Canada are welcome to apply to attend.
Campus Farmer Summit Request for Proposals
The Martin Institute at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts, will host the New England Campus Farmer Summit on Feb. 22, 2020. The summit program will focus on the theme of nourishment. Organizers are accepting proposals from campus farmers, students and representatives. Proposals are due Oct. 25.
Global Climate Change Week
Global Climate Change Week, scheduled for Oct. 14-20, aims to encourage academic communities to engage with each other, their communities and policy-makers on climate change action and solutions. During the Global Climate Change Week, teaching staff coordinate their teaching to be on an aspect of climate change. They also organize various other activities focused on awareness, behavior change and political transformation in relation to climate policy.
AASHE 2019 Workshop: Lots of Watts: Building an Energy Cohort to Buy Big Renewables
During this pre-conference, half-day workshop, participants will examine large-scale renewable energy aggregation at MIT, Lehigh University and Swarthmore College. Attendees will learn best practices for pursuing aggregated renewable energy power purchase agreements by understanding the economic, risk-management, reputational and academic benefits. Participants will work in small groups to conduct exercises that will help prepare them for a renewable energy buyers cohort.

2019 GameDay Recycling Challenge
Presented through a partnership with the National Wildlife Federation, RecycleMania Inc., the College & University Recycling Coalition, and EPA’s WasteWise program, the GameDay Challenge seeks to reduce trash generated inside and outside stadiums during home football games. During the competition, participating schools track and report how much recyclable and organic materials they collect, donate, reduce and recycle.
An Interactive Summit: BE.Hive on Campus: Climate Change Needs Behavior Change
Rare and Dickinson College are hosting BE.Hive on Campus: Climate Change Needs Behavior Change to explore how campus communities can be at the forefront of promoting sustainable behaviors and curbing the climate crisis. Held at Dickinson College on Oct. 5, participants will learn about the latest academic insights from behavior science, hear from leading environmentalists, artists, storytellers and explorers, and identify some of the greatest opportunities for shifting human behavior to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
SDGs Design International Awards 2019
These awards invite students from all over the world to use their design skills to create new, bold and innovative solutions. Designs can be submitted for SDG 13 (designs to counter damage caused by natural disasters), SDG 14 (designs to protect the ocean's abundance and beauty), or SDG 10 (designs for human coexistence beyond nationality, ethnicity, or age). Any genre of design is accepted, with students from any university, vocational school or graduate school eligible to apply. The grand prize to be awarded is $2,800 (300,000 Japanese yen). The initial review period closes on Oct. 31.
Green Launchpad Educators Workshop
This interactive workshop presented by VentureWell is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to integrate sustainable invention and innovation curriculum and practices into courses, whether they are existing core courses or sustainability-specific ones. Washington Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) Call for Proposals
Higher education sustainability stakeholders in Washington State and Oregon are encouraged to submit proposals to the Washington Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC), happening March 2-3, 2020, at the University of Oregon. The conference theme is Root Causes and Positive Actions, focusing on root causes to
sustainability challenges and positive actions to address them while simultaneously intersecting with diversity, equity and inclusion. The deadline to submit a proposal is Oct. 11.
AASHE 2019 Workshop: Leading with Circular Economy Concepts, Business Cases and Tools
This pre-conference, half-day workshop will focus on the key leadership skills for sustainability administrators and directors who need to make effective cases for circular economy programs (like zero waste), deliver successful metrics, and have a thriving campus program on sustainability that is deemed essential and value added by all. Some topics covered will be the process mapping for circular economy concepts and triple bottom line; business case development; metrics development for useful KPIs; project and program management tools; and how to connect to AASHE STARS.
ACE Leadership Awards
The American Council on Education is accepting nominations for three ACE awards honoring individuals or programs that work to diversify the ranks of higher education leadership. Nominations will be accepted until Oct. 18.
The People's Ecochallenge
The People's Ecochallenge is a 21-day environmental and social engagement program presented by Northwest Earth Institute that challenges participants to connect the dots between their values and actions. From Oct. 2 - 23, individuals make a 21-day commitment to complete specified actions. For every completed action, participants earn points, which will, if they are part of a team, contribute to the team's total points. The challenge is free to join and everyone is welcome.
