Call for Proposals: Students for Zero Waste Conference
The Post-Landfill Action Network is seeking speakers with an understanding of zero waste, environmental justice, and intersectionality to lead workshops and presentations at the Students for Zero Waste Conference, happening at the University of Pennsylvania from Oct. 11-13. The deadline to submit a workshop proposal is July 31.
ASCE Student Paper Competition
This paper competition hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers invites students to submit papers that address how engineers have contributed to the SDGs. Papers that focus on multidisciplinary (engineering & non-engineering) approaches to addressing the SDGs are especially welcomed. Papers must be submitted by April 15.
AASHE Workshop: Sustainability Professionals Retreat
The Sustainability Professionals Retreat is designed to support and bolster attendees’ vision, energy, capabilities and support system as a sustainability change agent on campus. Happening in Boulder, Colorado, from June 19 - 22, on the beautiful CU Boulder campus, this workshop will will explore important trends in higher education and how to position sustainability as a solution driver. The deadline to apply is May 1.
Call for Applications: Young Champions of the Earth 2019
Young Champions of the Earth supports individuals between 18 and 30 who have ideas for creating a positive environmental impact and sustainable future. Seven winners will be selected in 2019 to receive seed funding, intensive training, and tailored mentorship to bring their environmental ideas to life. The deadline to submit is March 31.
2019 GSA Innovators of the Year Awards
This year's Green Sports Alliance Innovators of the Year award will recognize an organization or individual that has demonstrated excellence and innovation in environmental and social stewardship in the world of sports. The deadline to submit is March 29.
Princeton Environmental Ideathon 2019
Held from April 5-7, the theme of the Princeton Environmental Ideathon is the Green Metropolis, which aims to create project proposals that have the potential to reduce carbon emissions in selected cities. Teams will choose one city and identify an environmental problem that is related to at least one of five categories: energy, transportation, water, waste and food. Teams are guided by experts from all the necessary disciplines to help draft a project proposal. The deadline to apply is March 27.
Student Survey on Attitudes Toward & Expectations for Sustainability
The National Union of Students encourages students from any institution of higher education to participate in the survey that aims to capture attitudes towards and expectations on sustainable development, regardless of the students interest or involvement in sustainability. The deadline to complete the survey is April 30.
2019 Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award
The Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award recognizes one senior faculty member each year for exemplary engaged scholarship, including leadership in advancing students’ civic learning, conducting community-based research, fostering reciprocal community partnerships, building institutional commitments to service-learning and civic engagement, and other means of enhancing higher education’s contributions to the public good. Nominations are due by May 31.
AASHE Sustainability Awards: Call for Submissions
The AASHE Sustainability Awards program raises the visibility of high-impact sustainability projects, pioneering research, and student leadership, helping to disseminate innovations and inspire continued progress toward environmental, social and economic health. Submissions are accepted through May 10.
AASHE Member Discount: $100 Off Sustainability Certification Through ISSP
The International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) offers students, faculty and staff from AASHE-member schools a $100 discount on the ISSP Sustainability Associate (ISSP-SA) credential exam. The program is designed to recognize the knowledge, skills and abilities of those in the sustainability field, including students with knowledge of core sustainability concepts.
Sustainability Across the Curriculum Workshop
Learn how to lead curriculum change for sustainability by becoming familiar with the philosophy of change in higher education developed through the Ponderosa Project at Northern Arizona University and adapted at Emory in the Piedmont Project. The two-day workshop will feature presentations, exercises, discussions, reflection and planning. Readings and organizational materials are provided. Drs. Peggy Barlett and Geoffrey Chase will facilitate the workshop. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until March 29.
Call for Abstracts: 2019 Ecocity World Summit
Summit organizers encourage submissions to the Ecocity World Summit 2019, happening in Vancouver, British Columbia, from October 7 - 11. The summit brings together a mix of researchers, policy makers, city-building professionals, business innovators and civil society leaders who share a commitment to creating socially just and ecologically sustainable cities. The deadline to submit an abstract is April 1.
Biomimicry Global Design Challenge
The Biomimicry Global Design Challenge is an annual competition that asks teams of students and professionals to address critical global issues with nature-inspired solutions. The challenge is hosted by the Biomimicry Institute, in partnership with the Ray C. Anderson Foundation.

CoFED Summer Co-Op Academy
CoFED’s Summer Co-op Academy is a week-long education intensive designed for Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian and Pacific Islander youth who are working in food cooperatives and collectives to grow community health and wealth through food and land. The next academy is June 17-23, location to be announced. Applications will be accepted through March 15.
U.N. Global Climate Action Awards
Spearheaded by U.N. Climate Change's Momentum for Change initiative, the U.N. Global Climate Action Award recognizes innovative, scalable and replicable examples of projects and initiatives that tackle climate change. There are four areas of focus: Women for Results; Financing for Climate Friendly Investment; Planetary Health; and Climate Neutral Now. The deadline to apply is April 30.

Fair Trade Campaigns National Conference 50% Discount

Drawdown EcoChallenge
Drawdown EcoChallenge challenges participants to take action on the 100 most substantive solutions to global warming. The initiative is a 21-day engagement program focused on carbon reduction. The challenge follows actions highlighted in Drawdown, a book based on research that maps, measures, models and describes solutions to global warming that already exists. Participants track and share their progress online and earn points for taking action. The program takes place April 3 - 24 and is free and open to the public.
NACUBO Excellence in Sustainability Award
The National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) is accepting nominations for their Excellence in Sustainability Award. This award recognizes institutions that have demonstrated excellence and innovation in a specific process, innovation or program that embraces the full range of sustainability leadership: financial, facilities, operational, environmental, community and climate. Nominations for this award close on March 8.
2019 AASHE Conference & Expo Call for Proposals Closes March 8
The last day to submit a proposal and/or sign up to be a reviewer for AASHE 2019 is March 8. Hosted in Spokane, Washington, from Oct. 27-30, the conference theme is Co-Creating a Sustainable Economy and aims to tackle a root cause for the continued rise in carbon emissions: our dysfunctional economic system. All accepted presenters receive a discount applicable to full conference registration. This deadline will not be extended.
Call for Nominations: Board of Directors for the RecycleMania Program
RecycleMania is seeking individuals to serve on its board of directors. RecycleMania's mission is to provide tools and opportunities that inspire, empower and mobilize colleges and universities to benchmark and improve the efforts to reduce or eliminate waste. The director’s term is three years and the board meets monthly. Statements of interest are due March 22.
Northeast Summit for a Sustainable Built Environment
The Northeast Summit for a Sustainable Built Environment, happening March 8 at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, is themed Equity of Place: Social Justice in the Built Environment. Focus areas are material health and social justice, climate justice and conservation, resilience, community engagement and affordable housing.
2019 UL Innovative Education Award
Offered by UL in partnership with the North American Association for Environmental Education, the award program seeks to recognize those that promote learning through STEM priorities, engage all people in civic and social responsibility, and find solutions to environmental challenges. Five winning organizations will be named winners in 2019, with one grand-prize winner to receive $100,000; two second-tier winners to receive $50,000 each; and two third-tier winners to receive $25,000 each. Eligible organizations must apply by March 12.

Environmental Education Advocacy Day
Supported by the North American Association for Environmental Education, AASHE and others, the Environmental Education Advocacy Day on Feb. 20 is an opportunity to promote environmental education policies and priorities by engaging with Congress. Registration closes Feb. 6.
Geothermal Design Challenge 2019
The U.S. Department of Energy Geothermal Technologies Office, in partnership with the Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy and the Idaho National Laboratory, invites both high school and university (undergraduate & graduate) teams to sign up to research data, interpret information and create a data visualization portfolio that will tell a compelling story about geothermal energy.
U.S. House Climate Change Sign-On Letter
Any member of an HEI is invited to sign (with a .edu address) a letter being sent to Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, about the importance of a strong climate action agenda in the new Congress. The letter will also have support from other sector leaders and will be publicly released when it is sent to Pelosi in February. The deadline for signing is Feb. 1.
2019 Colby Summer Institute in Environmental Humanities
Colby College is hosting a Summer Institute in Environmental Humanities from Aug. 5-10, 2019 with the aim of engaging with contemporary issues in the environmental humanities through participatory, interdisciplinary events, including seminars and workshops. Participants will collectively explore how this developing field contributes to the theorization, imagination and practice of socially just and ecologically hopeful futures. Applications are due Feb. 1.
Call for Reviewers: 2019 AASHE Conference & Expo
Higher education sustainability stakeholders are encouraged to sign up as conference abstract reviewers for AASHE 2019. The expertise of reviewers will help develop a conference program that includes a variety of high-quality sessions to meet the diverse interests of attendees. Reviewers can expect to examine roughly 25 proposals on topics in their area of expertise. The deadline to sign up is March 8, which is also the deadline for the call for proposals and will not be extended.
Post-Landfill Action Network Campus Visits
Post-Landfill Action Network (PLAN) is seeking partners to host customized events on their campuses. These events can range from a two-hour presentation to a multi-day event. Fees are based on a sliding scale.
UNCF - Kia Motors America Scholarship
The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) has partnered with Kia Motors America to provide up to $3,000 need-based scholarship opportunities for students majoring in sustainability/environmental science. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1.
Boulé Foundation Scholarship
The Boulé Foundation, in conjunction with United Negro College Fund, will provide annual, $4,000 merit-based scholarships to new college freshmen of African American descent attending four-year, accredited, non-profit degree granting colleges and universities of their choice. The deadline to apply is March 31.
Campus Social Innovation Accelerator Program
Ashoka U Commons is an online, professional development program for higher education faculty and staff working to advance social innovation education opportunities on their campuses. Over the course of a semester, participants are grouped into small cohorts and supported by a coach as they work to advance a core component of social innovation education, such as creating a new course or mapping student learning journeys. The deadline to apply is Jan. 25.
Call for Input: Sustainability Across the Curriculum Workshop Inventory
The online inventory form will collect information about existing and past workshops, programs, and/or projects that support incorporating sustainability across the curriculum of higher education institutions. Collected and compiled by individuals of AASHE Centers for Sustainability Across the Curriculum, the inventory aims to improve networking, strengthen offerings by the AASHE centers, and document the evolution of the movement.
