Global Survey on Poverty and the Sustainable Development Goals
The aim of this survey is to better understand the challenges and solutions business and management educators around the world face as they seek to include the issue of poverty and inequality into business school curricula, modules, programs and courses. As such, it aims to understand progress made since a 2012 survey on responsible management, and explore the topic of responsible management education in light of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The survey is being conducted by Principles for Responsible Management Education. The deadline to contribute is June 9.
Second Nature 2017 Climate Leadership Award Nominations
The 8th annual Climate Leadership Awards invite applications from signatory campuses of the Presidents’ Climate Leadership Commitments. These awards recognize innovative and advanced leadership in sustainability, climate mitigation and resilience. Nominees will be considered based on their commitment to climate neutrality, curriculum integration, partnerships and innovative leadership. Second Nature offers these awards in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Applications are due no later than May 26.

May 19 Deadline Approaching: AASHE Sustainability Awards
The annual AASHE Sustainability Awards submission period closes in three days. Ten awards will be given in three categories: Campus Sustainability Achievement, Campus Sustainability Research and Student Sustainability Leadership. Apply by May 19 to be considered for an award.
AASHE Workshop: Sustainability, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Workshop
This three-day workshop, happening June 28–30 at the University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment, will utilize a range of workshop strategies to familiarize participants with approaches to recognize the interconnections of sustainability, diversity and equity. Participants will be exposed to diverse perspectives and dialogue with colleagues from other disciplines and campuses as they gain skills to incorporate these topics in their syllabi, lesson plans and campus projects. The deadline to register is June 2.
AASHE Member Discount: $100 Off Sustainability Certification Through ISSP
The International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) offers students, faculty and staff from AASHE-member schools a $100 discount on the ISSP Sustainability Associate (ISSP-SA) credential exam. The program is designed to recognize the knowledge, skills and abilities of those in the sustainability field, including students with knowledge of core sustainability concepts.
Call for Proposals: Students for Zero Waste 2017
Post-Landfill Action Network invites proposals for the Students for Zero Waste event in Philadelphia from Nov. 3-4. Organizers are looking for workshops and presenters to have a diversity of thought, experience and background in zero waste, environmental justice and sustainability practices in general. Proposal submissions are due June 1.
FAFO Funding for Organic Research
Farmers Advocating for Organic (FAFO) is accepting letters of interest from academic and research institutions who are interested in conducting research related to organic farmers, organic farming practices and organic food, and projects that provide organic agricultural education for farmers, or educate consumers and other key stakeholders on the benefits of organic food and farming. There are two grant cycles remaining in 2017 with application deadlines June 15 and Sept. 15.
Environmental Education Research: Special Issue Call for Proposals
This special issue of Environmental Education Research will focus on investigating the relationship between research and policy in environmental and sustainability education. Contributions should examine the current state of play with respect to research-policy relationships within environmental and sustainability education. Submissions are due by May 15.
EERE Postdoctoral Research Awards
The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Postdoctoral Research Award Program supports scientific research in energy efficiency and renewable energy by attracting scientists and engineers to pursue breakthrough technologies. The award will provide an annual stipend of $65,000, allowances for health insurance and research-related expenses, and limited reimbursement for relocation expenses. The deadline to apply is May 31.
2017 Climate Leadership Awards
The annual Second Nature Climate Leadership Awards recognize innovative and advanced leadership in sustainability, climate mitigation, and resilience at signatory campuses of the Climate Leadership Commitments. They do so based on demonstrated advances in innovation, embedded opportunities and student preparedness with relation to sustainability and climate action. Applications are due May 26.
Call for Nominations: Landmark Behavior Change Case Studies
Tools of Change is soliciting nominations for its 2017 Landmark behavior change case studies in two topic areas: energy conservation and sustainable transportation. Designation as a landmark case study through this peer selection process recognizes behavior change programs and approaches considered to be best practices, which are successful, innovative, replicable and adaptable. Nominations are due by June 5.
GWA Green Medal Sustainability Award
The Garden Writers Association's new Green Medal Sustainability Award recognizes individuals or organizations who embody the highest ideals of leadership in promoting good land use and care, and have helped people see how gardening, landscaping or farming in harmony with the Earth’s natural systems is good for themselves as well as the planet. Self-nominations are welcome. Nominations are due by May 1.
AASHE Sustainability Awards: Call for Submissions
The annual AASHE Sustainability Awards recognize sustainability achievements, research advancements and student leadership. By raising the visibility of high-impact sustainability projects and pioneering research, the awards program helps to disseminate innovations and inspire continued progress toward sustainability. Submissions are due by May 12 to be considered for one of 10 awards, to be given at the 2017 AASHE Conference & Expo.
2017 Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award: Nomination Cycle Open
The Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award recognizes one senior faculty member each year for exemplary engaged scholarship, including leadership in advancing students’ civic learning, conducting community-based research, fostering reciprocal community partnerships, building institutional commitments to service-learning and civic engagement, and other means of enhancing higher education’s contributions to the public good. Nominations will be accepted until June 6.
Global Reporting Initiative Standards Certification
Lewis & Clark College is hosting a training for students and professionals on the Global Reporting Initiative Standards, in Portland, Oregon, May 19-20. The Global Reporting Initiative is a framework for corporate social responsibility reporting and a range of economic, environmental and social impacts. Upon training completion, participants receive a GRI Standards Certificate directly from the Global Reporting Initiative.

AASHE Sustainability Professionals Retreat Deadline to Sign Up: April 14
Join facilitators Leith Sharp from Harvard University and Aurora Winslade from Swarthmore College, and guest speakers Peterson Toscano, Lizza Robb and Emilie Rex, at the AASHE Sustainability Professionals Retreat, which will allow for creative and open-ended discussions that encourage professional growth and skills-building. Held June 19-22 at Pendle Hill, a retreat center outside of Philadelphia, the three-day workshop is designed to teach skills that professionals can take back to their campus to address sustainability challenges. The deadline to apply is April 14.
Education, Ethics & Values for Sustainability: Transformative Teaching & Learning with the Earth Charter
This program aims to deepen participants' understanding of the concept of sustainable development and its implications for education, learning and change. It explores practical methods for introducing sustainability values into educational settings, and uses the Earth Charter as an essential foundation for sustainability. The one-week intensive program will be held at the Earth Charter Center for Education for Sustainable Development at the University for Peace, Costa Rica, from July 3-7.
Campus Sustainability Leadership Professional Certificate
The University of Vermont is offering the five-day Campus Sustainability Leadership program from June 12-16, which will focus on change through transformative and financially sustainable innovations to help campuses become sustainability models. Participants will have the opportunity to expand their professional network and learn from leaders in the field.
NWF EcoLeader Certification
The National Wildlife Federation's EcoLeaders program now offers a Certified Campus Ecoleader badge to those showing project-based leadership by advancing sustainability projects on campus or in the community. The EcoLeaders program is designed to help young professionals secure employment that help the planet.
Future Organic Farmer Education Grant Funding
The California Certified Organic Farmers Foundation is accepting applications from students pursuing organic agriculture programs for educational grant funding that is intended to help with tuition and education expenses. Applications must be submitted by May 15.
AASCU Excellence & Innovation Awards
The purpose of these awards is to recognize and honor American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) institutions that demonstrate excellence and innovation in their approach to sustainability and sustainable development, civic learning and community engagement, and leadership development and diversity. Livestream National Geographic Episode and Panel Discussion About Carbon Pricing
On April 5, the Bard Center for Environmental Policy at Bard College will host a national screening of Priceless, an episode from the National Geographic series, Years of Living Dangerously. The one-hour show, focusing on both carbon pricing and the threat to biodiversity caused by climate change, will be followed by a webcast panel discussion. Participating schools will be able to watch the episode at no charge, and the panel will welcome questions from a national viewing audience.
Invitation from Religious Group to Sign Climate Change Letter to Trump Administration
Chaplains for Earth, a collaboration among U.S. deans and directors of college and university religious and spiritual life departments, invites anyone in a leading or directing position in a religious and spiritual life department at a higher education institution, including head campus chaplains, to sign the open letter to President Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and U.S. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt calling on them to honor U.S. commitments made at the 2015 United Nations Climate Conference in Paris.
Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition
The Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition is a global program intended to support the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Young people from around the world are invited to submit innovative ideas and projects that contribute to one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The deadline to apply is July 31.
CURC Board of Directors Nominations
The College and University Recycling Coalition (CURC) seeks individuals who will provide its board with a diverse range of professional experience and knowledge with recycling and sustainability specific to colleges and universities. CURC aims to include representation from different types and sizes of higher education institutions across the U.S. and Canada. Nominations are due by April 7.
21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge
The challenge is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits. Participants will explore the impact of race in the food system, uncovering racial inequities and injustices to discover ways to collectively promote a more just food system for all. The challenge is hosted by Food Solutions New England, a regional network coordinated by the Sustainability Institute at the University of New Hampshire. The challenge will take place from April 9-29.
Urban Environmental Education Online Course
This eight-week course, offered by Cornell University’s Civic Ecology Lab from April 10-June 4, is designed to help participants improve their knowledge of urban environmental education. Urban environmental education includes any learning practices that foster individual and community well-being and environmental quality in cities. Course participants will learn about urban contexts, theoretical underpinnings, educational settings and educational approaches in urban environmental education.
Energy Dept. Smart Labs Accelerator
The U.S. Department of Energy's Smart Labs Accelerator works with partner organizations to set a target to improve energy efficiency across their portfolio of laboratory buildings by at least 20 percent in 10 years or less. Partners will work together to develop standardized approaches to overcoming common barriers to energy efficiency in laboratories such as insufficient energy performance measurement methods and resistance to implementing efficient operational procedures.
Our Climate Fellowship
Students will train and organize other students, rallying public support for carbon pricing policy, and engage directly with elected officials on the local, state and national level. Applications are currently being accepted for summer 2017, fall 2017 and spring 2018 fellowship positions.
