U Wisconsin Milwaukee Releases Climate Action Plan

The university's new Climate Action, Carbon and Resiliency Plan goals include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent from 2010 levels by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. To integrate teaching, learning experiences and research, the plan calls for the establishment of the Institute of Climate Resilience.

U Victoria Publishes Sustainability Plan

The university's new Climate and Sustainability Action Plan 2030 is comprised of an overall strategy and an associated action plan. The plan outlines commitments and actions by setting three integrated initiatives and three key targets, along with four themes to approach the work, such as considering how actions benefit the lands, water and communities of the area.

AASHE Announces the 2022 Sustainability Award Finalists

AASHE recently released the 28 finalists selected for this year’s Sustainability Awards. Selected from more than 430 submissions, the finalists represent high-impact sustainability projects, pioneering research, and student leadership. A ceremony will be held on Dec. 8 to announce the winners across all 12 categories.

Georgia Tech Unveils Sustainability Strategic Plan

Serving as an implementation roadmap for sustainability at the university over the next 10 years, the new Sustainability Next Plan features six key priorities–operations, education for sustainable development, sustainability research, culture and organization, climate solutions and campus as a living and learning lab. The university allocated $1.25 million in support of plan initiatives and is currently crafting a governance structure to ensure plan progress.

Princeton Review Releases 2023 Guide to Green Colleges

The Princeton Review recently released its 13th annual Guide to Green Colleges, profiling 455 universities and colleges with a commitment to sustainability. Of the 455 schools selected for the 2023 edition, 421 are in the U.S., 26 are in Canada, two are in Taiwan and one (each) is in Ecuador, Egypt, Greece, Ireland, Mexico, and Morocco.

2022 AASHE Sustainable Campus Index Lists Top Performers

The Sustainable Campus Index (SCI) recognizes top-performing colleges and universities in 17 sustainability impact areas, and overall by institution type, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS). This year’s SCI introduces an international top performers list that recognizes the highest scoring institution in every participating country with at least one STARS-rated institution.

Illinois State U Releases Inaugural Sustainability Strategic Plan

The new plan outlines goals for the university, including creating more sustainability-related courses and research opportunities; prioritizing conservation and innovation for water, energy, and construction efforts; providing sustainable transportation incentives; and nurturing more leadership roles for students through campus and community partnerships.

13 U Health Systems Commit to Reduce GHG Emissions

Over 650 hospitals, 13 of which are university hospital systems, committed to the Biden-Harris Administration Health Sector Climate Pledge, which is a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 50 percent by 2030. The signatories also pledge to strengthen resilience to climate change, protect public health and lower costs.
